Form School
When creating Cornerstone Improv, one of our objectives was to provide form specific workshops. We hope to have more of these in the future focusing on forms like the Harold, Deconstruction (The Family-style), Monoscene, Pretty Flower, and more. If you want us to teach a particular form in a Form School workshop, let us know. We are always open to feedback and ideas!!
The Slacker
The Slacker is a form that Matt and Ryan have loved for many years; it’s no surprise they taught it for the first Form School. As with all forms, learning the basics will only help an improviser grow with the other improv they do. This group was great and really worked hard to learn the Slacker in three weeks and put on an amazing show to prove it.
The Armando
Julius R. Taught our most recent Form School and focused on the Armando. Students learned how to deliver effective monologues, sharpened their listening skills while being inspired by stories, formulated premises for scenes, and initiated/played game. They capped it off with a show that delighted us all!
The Deconstruction
Zach and Joe taught The Deconstruction Form School over the course of 4 weeks after which the class performed it to a sold out crowd.
The Deconstruction, or Decon, was the first piece created by the Chicago-based team The Family under the direction of Del Close. It’s among the most strictly constructed of all the long form structures, making it one of the most fulfilling improv shows to perform in and to watch! As Miles Stroth (of The Family) puts it, “Where traditional Harolds utilized an Opening to generate ideas and information upon which to base the piece, the Decon asked a simple question, how many different ways can you be inspired by a scene.”
